About the Role - 33962 - Tax Lead (North America)
Orica is hiring a Tax Lead who will manage North American (US & Canada) tax affairs, ensuring compliance with tax laws and company policies, delivering strategic tax advice, implementing regional tax strategy, and overseeing tax disputes.
What you will be doing
Executes and manages within the Group Standard(s):
- Ensures regional compliance to Orica’s Tax Standard, Tax Procedures and Tax Guidelines.
- In conjunction with the Regional Tax Manager and Global tax team based in Melbourne, develop and implement the tax strategy for the region.
- Recommend tax planning opportunities in the region, including restructuring of affairs to ensure legislative compliance and compliance with the Tax Standard.
- Manage and support all tax audits and disputes in the region. Identify risk areas and proactively manage the issues to mitigate risks.
- Provide clear tax advice on all structuring, acquisition and divestment activities in region.
- Ensure the tax obligations and tax laws in all countries in region are complied with for direct and indirect taxes. Direct accountability for direct taxes.
- Ensure all tax returns in region are lodged and payments made within appropriate timeframe.
- Manage the regional transfer pricing program for documentation and strategy. Provide advice in region on cross border transactions.
- Manage the relationship with Revenue authorities and external advisors for the region
- Manage the tax effect accounting for the region
- Manage the effective tax rate for the region, including management of tax losses, efficient repatriation of profits, tax efficient structures, thin capitalization, utilization of tax losses.
- Implement and monitor effective tax risk management strategies for US and Canada.
- Keep up to date with legislative changes for the region, understand, manage and communicate the impact of changes to interested stakeholders. Proactively manage any changes required as a result of legislative changes.
- Ensure all compliance obligations for the region are lodged on time and in compliance with local requirements. Coordinate finance staff and/or external service providers to achieve this. Direct responsibility for the lodgement of USA and Canada income tax returns.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement in the tax compliance and tax reporting functions.
What you will bring
- Strong knowledge of corporate tax, transfer pricing, tax treaties, income source rules and indirect tax principles.
- 7-10 years of professional experience in the tax department of a large company, tax or financial management. Background in a Big 4 firm is an advantage
- Experience in international tax law and IFRS tax reporting
- Experience in dealing with tax issues for USA and Canada countries
- Candidate should be familiar with the following returns and forms:
- USA: Form 1120, Form 1120-F, All 1099 Forms, Form 926, Form 8886, Form 1042, Form 966
- Canada: T2 Corporate income Tax, T106, T1134, T661
- Knowledge of SAP and Thomson Reuters, ONESOURCE is an advantage
Role dimensions
• The role coordinates with one tax staff located in the Manila, Philippines, covering direct tax return preparation, tax audit co-ordination and tax effect accounting.
• The position has close working relationships with regional and country finance managers in North America, legal, corporate finance, treasury, and M&A.
• Expectation if based in Denver, USA to be in office 3 days a week

- Bachelor's or Master's degree with a focus on tax law and completed commercial training in the appropriate field of study

Compensation
- Full time Salaried Position
- Annual Salary Range $103,125 - 140,000 USD
- Eligible for annual short-term incentive plan
(Salary to be determined by the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
