About the Role - Field Trainer – North America
Orica is hiring a Field Trainer to support field operations throughout North America by providing functional training and coaching to meet both Orica standards and regulatory compliance requirements. This position will oversee and coordinate the infield training and assessment requirements of Orica Operations personnel and will conduct training and issue Statements of Attainment where required.
What you will be doing
Performance measures
- SH&E – lead by example.
- Measures: Proper and frequent use of PPE and safety systems (Take 5, AAs, JSERA, Active participation & leadership at safety meetings, Drive Major Hazard Initiative on-site).
- Provide hands on operations related training/coaching for site personnel and supervisors.
- Measures: Competency and compliance levels increasing, cost/head reducing. LTO & LTS courses conducted to meet needs.
- Assist Plant Supervisors to ensure training records are recorded in a timely manner.
- Measures: Operators training records accurate and up to date
- Contribute to the design and development of up to date, compliant training resources including MMU/MCU manuals, Plant Manuals, Training Modules, Technology Based resources.
- Measures: Participation in, and conduct of, training needs assessment, instructional design, course development, program implementation and evaluation.
- Train and coach other Field Trainers, Assessors and Mentors.
- Measures: Identification of qualified mentors/assessors and evidence that number is increasing.
- Monitor training record reports and work with operational superintendents to ensure compliance.
- Measures: Regional training plan maintained and communicated.
- Assist with the organizing, promoting and delivery of on-site reassessments of critical competencies.
- Measures: Each operator appropriately reassessed in critical skills by the due date.
- Assist Site Managers with the full implementation and use of the LMS to ensure individual training plans are in place for each of their personnel.
- Measures: Each Operator has a functional, current training plan.
Operating environment:
Orica has over 100 sites and offices, often in remote locations, across NA. This results in issues such as diversity of culture, different customer priorities, different equipment and processes and variation in statutory and industrial relations requirements.
This position assists in the hands-on training system within the geographical Region. Specifically, each participant in the training system has a personalized training development plan, receives appropriate training aimed at HPO results, practices in a continuous learning environment, and is encouraged to continuously improve the system.
In addition, this position is expected to provide significant hands-on training to operations personnel and other staff. This may include machinery operation, on-bench skills such as Mobile Mixing Unit (MMU) operation, Underground loading, Blasting, maintenance, troubleshooting and supervisory skills.
Due to the large geographical distribution and the need to be on site to deliver training, the ability to travel is a necessary requirement and can at times include the occasional weekend or shift work.

Indirect influence on factors which reflect training effectiveness such as: safety related costs; maintenance costs; costs such as misfires, flyrock, environmental mishaps, industrial relations issues, customer satisfaction, etc.

Your qualifications
- Certified Training Instructor or the ability to obtain, if not certified.
- Operational experience as either: Mobile Mixing Unit (MMU) Operator, Underground operator, Blaster, Site Manager.

Compensation
- Full Time Salaried Position
- Salary Range: $68,100 - $95,340
- Eligible for annual short-term incentive plan
- Company Vehicle
