About the role

The Loadout Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant loading, handling, and shipment of product at the Carseland site in Alberta. This is a hands-on operational role focused on rail and truck loading, materials handling, mobile equipment operation, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory requirements. 


The role operates within the Loadout Proficiency Progression Program, with increasing responsibility, skill, and accountability as the employee progresses through training levels (Entry through Technician levels). 

What you will be doing

Safety & Compliance 

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment in accordance with all plant, site, and loadout safety rules 
  • Follow loadout-specific safety procedures, emergency response requirements, and housekeeping standards 
  • Actively participate in departmental safety programs, inspections, and meetings 
  • Use required PPE and safety equipment at all times 
  • Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions 
  • Comply with all applicable transportation and regulatory requirements, including TDG and rail safety rules (as applicable)

 

Loadout & Operations 

  • Perform safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars and trucks 
  • Operate mobile equipment such as front-end loaders, forklifts, and trackmobile (as trained and qualified) 
  • Conduct railcar and truck cleaning, inspection, and preparation prior to loading 
  • Perform storage reclaim, shipping, and dust collection activities as required 
  • Ensure product quality, integrity, and contamination control during loadout operations 
  • Coordinate with rail crews and follow established safe railroading procedures (as qualified) 

 

Equipment & Maintenance Support 

  • Complete daily and routine inspections of mobile equipment and loadout systems 
  • Perform basic servicing and preventative maintenance checks 
  • Identify equipment defects and initiate work requests or safe work permits as required by proficiency level 
  • Support maintenance activities in the loadout area when directed 

 

Training & Progression 

  • Progress through the Loadout Proficiency Levels by completing required on-the-job training, evaluations, and testing 
  • Demonstrate increasing competency across safety, operations, and equipment use 
  • Support training and mentoring of other loadout operators as delegated at senior levels 
  • Maintain required certifications and licenses for equipment operation 
     

What you will bring

  • Experience in industrial operations, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, or heavy materials handling is an asset 
  • Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and procedural compliance 
  • Ability to operate, or willingness to learn to operate, mobile equipment 
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment and in varying weather conditions 
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow operational manuals and procedures 

Role dimensions

  • No direct reports 
  • Works in an industrial manufacturing and rail loadout environment 
  • Key internal stakeholders include Loadout Coordinators, Operations, Maintenance, and Production teams 
  • Role progression governed by the Loadout Proficiency Progression Program 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Physically demanding role involving lifting, climbing, and equipment operation 
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, dust, and industrial environments 
  • Shift work and overtime may be required based on operational demand 
  • Schedule: Typically Monday to Friday, with planned Sunday coverage approximately once per month, rotation schedule, morning and afternoon shifts (9 hours/shift)

Your qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to obtain required site safety certifications and equipment licenses 
  • Forklift, loader, rail, or bulk materials handling experience considered an asset
