About the role
We are seeking ambitious Senior Blasting Technician to work within our tight-knit, friendly, and high performing Snowy 2.0 technical team. Due to the geographical nature of our customer site preference will be given to candidates who currently reside in the Cooma or Canberra region, or who are willing to permanently relocate.
The successful candidates will support our Snowy customer site, providing technical solutions on the application of our products and technology. Our Customers look to our Technical Services Engineers to solve practical blasting challenges, allowing our people to showcase their technical skills and create discreet solutions for clients.
This position follows a 14/14 roster, with travel, accommodation, and meals provided while on shift—ensuring you’re supported both on and off the job.
At Orica, we have the training infrastructure and expertise within the team to train talented and ambitious engineers in Technical Blasting, therefore we are inviting applicants with all levels of engineering experience.
What you will be doing
- Leading and managing technical blasting projects to deliver value and innovation.
- Collaborating with customers to prioritize and execute projects using Orica’s global network of experts.
- Building long-term partnerships and providing ongoing technical support.
- Managing customer relationships and ensuring consistent engagement across key sites.
- Taking ownership of results and continuously improving your technical knowledge and impact.
What you will bring
- Either: 5+ years of hands-on shot firing experience (Senior Blast Technician);
Or: A degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline (Technical Services Engineering); - Solid understanding of underground mining operations and drill & blast processes;
- Experience with Orica’s i-kon blasting system is a plus;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a high-performing team;
- A proactive mindset focused on delivering value and continuous improvement;
- Strong sense of accountability and customer partnership;
- Eligibility to obtain a national police clearance.
