About the role
The Lead - AI Project is responsible for driving the successful delivery of Orica's AI and Analytics portfolio for customer facing applications, managing a broad range of AI solutions across cutting-edge research and development, engineering projects, and data platform infrastructure. Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, the role manages the AI product lifecycle from initial product scope and requirements to project delivery.
Joining our AI Centre of Excellence team based in our Orica's Windsor office, this role combines technical understanding, project leadership, and cross-functional stakeholder management to product roadmaps, coordinate teams, develop execution plans, manage priorities, and deliver innovative AI solutions that create business value across the organization.
What you will be doing
The Lead - AI Project plays a pivotal role in overseeing the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of AI, analytics, engineering, and data platform initiatives. Working closely with stakeholders across R&D, Engineering, and Data teams, the role is responsible for defining project objectives, establishing clear success measures, and developing detailed execution plans that cover timelines, budgets, resources, and risk management. Leveraging Agile methodologies, the successful candidate will ensure projects remain adaptable to evolving priorities while maintaining alignment with strategic business goals.
In addition, the role work closely with key stakeholders to define the AI product roadmap and strategy and work with a cross-functional teams of AI engineers, data scientists, and AI specialists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment focused on communication, innovation, and knowledge sharing. The Lead - AI Project will proactively manage project risks, dependencies, and roadblocks, monitor progress through key performance indicators, and ensure all deliverables meet quality and technical standards.
The position also drives continuous improvement by implementing project management best practices and staying informed on emerging technologies and industry trends that support the advancement of AI, engineering, and data platform capabilities across the organization.
What you will bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Product Management, IT, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Strong knowledge of Orica’s blasting and technology portfolio and business
- Strong experience in using JIRA, ServiceNow, Project Hub for project management.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering project/ product management, with a proven track record of success in delivering complex projects.
- Experience managing projects across R&D, Engineering, or Data Platforms is a strong plus.
- In-depth understanding of Agile methodologies (Kanban) and project management frameworks (e.g., PMP).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage technical complexities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading and motivating cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project) and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with data engineering principles and practices is a plus.
