Orica’s Quarry Services division is on the lookout for an experienced Shotfirer to join our team based at the Drury site, located just 36 km south of Auckland. Serving as a central hub for our quarry operations in the region, the Drury site offers a dynamic and supportive environment where your skills will truly make an impact.
As a Shotfirer, you’ll be at the forefront of high impact blasting operations across a diverse range of customer quarry sites. Each location presents unique technical challenges, giving you the opportunity to apply your expertise in varied and exciting settings. You will collaborate closely with Bench Assistants and MMU Operators, leading all aspects of loading, tying, and firing large-scale blasts. With a strong focus on safety, precision, and teamwork, you’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional blasting services.
This position operates on a Monday to Friday roster, offering the stability of a regular schedule while working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

What you will be doing
- Providing operational blasting knowledge, direction and advice to Orica’s blast crews and associated stakeholders;
- Shotfiring duties including magazine management, managing the loading, tying and firing of blasts, following drill and blast designs;
- Working in tight unison with your teammates to provide excellence in service to our valued customers;
- Assisting with the training and mentoring of new team members;
- At all times acting with integrity and respect.
What you will bring
- 3+ years Shotfiring experience, (Quarries experience preferred but not essential);
- Current Handlers license and Controlled Substance license;
- Knowledge of government regulations for transport, storage and handling of explosives;
- Strong communication and writing skills;
- Strong time management, customer liaison and negotiation skills.
