About the role
We are excited to offer an outstanding opportunity for a talented Lead – Business Development to join Orica’s dynamic team.
As the Business Development Lead, you will leverage your deep expertise in mining engineering and industry processes to identify new opportunities and support technical engagements, ensuring that Orica’s digital solutions deliver tangible value to mining operations. You will also spearhead our sales initiatives in North Africa, driving growth in alignment with our strategic vision.
In this role, you will be responsible for all customer sales engagements—serving as the primary contact or document approver—while collaborating closely with digital and technical services teams throughout customer engagement and implementation phases. Your primary focus will be on developing, maintaining, and managing the Africa North opportunity pipeline to expand Orica’s digital product market share and achieve financial growth, including winning and retaining digital sales.

What you will be doing

Drive the Sales Pipeline:
Manage the entire sales process from lead generation to closing, using Orica’s CRM tools. Engage directly with customers, understand their needs, develop tailored solutions, and negotiate contracts to win and retain business. -
Leverage Your Mining Engineering Expertise:
Use your deep understanding of mining operations to support technical discussions with customers and ensure Orica’s solutions are aligned with industry needs. -
Develop Market and Competitor Intelligence:
Own and maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Africa North market and competitors, including pricing and value proposition analysis, to ensure Orica remains competitive and profitable. -
Support Financial and Strategic Planning:
Contribute to budgeting, profitability analysis, and annual budget planning. Analyze financial performance and market data to identify new opportunities and support business cases for new technologies. -
Champion Technology and Innovation:
Support the commercialization of emerging technologies, define their value for customers, and collaborate with technical teams to ensure successful implementation and continuous improvement based on customer feedback. -
Lead Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision makers, manage stakeholder expectations during technology rollouts, and serve as the main point of contact for regional business managers and customers across multiple sites.
What you will bring

Deep Industry Expertise:
A degree in Mining Engineering (or similar) with 10+ years of hands-on experience in the mining industry. You have a deep understanding of mining processes, value drivers, and operational challenges, enabling you to bridge technical and commercial discussions. -
Proven Track Record in Sales and Market Growth:
Demonstrated ability to achieve regional sales and EBIT targets, drive market penetration of digital products and services, and deliver growth in new and competitive accounts. -
Financial and Analytical Acumen:
Solid experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and profitability assessment, with strong data analysis skills (ideally with PowerBI), and the ability to support new technology business cases and annual budget planning. -
Outstanding Communication and Relationship Skills:
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities, with a consultative sales approach, CRM proficiency (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP Cloud for Customer), and the capacity to build trust and influence across diverse stakeholder groups. -
Personal Integrity and Resilience:
A reputation for integrity, ethics, and professionalism; a positive, team-oriented attitude; resilience and adaptability in changing environments; and a strong customer focus with the willingness and ability to travel 25–50% as needed.
