About the role


We are pleased to announce that we are inviting candidate applications for the role of Tax Accountant (Africa). In this role, you will be responsible for managing the tax affairs of Orica's Africa Regional business. It will ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and Orica policies and procedures in the region. It will provide strategic tax advice to the business, implement the tax strategy in the region and manage all regional tax disputes

What you will be doing

 

  • Ensure regional compliance with Orica’s Tax Standard, Procedures, and Guidelines
  • Collaborate with the global tax team in Melbourne to develop and execute tax strategy for Africa, 
  • identifying and recommending tax planning opportunities and restructuring as needed.
  • Assist in managing tax audits and disputes in the region, identifying risk areas and proactively addressing issues to mitigate risks.
  • Research and provide clear tax advice to the Tax Manager on structuring, acquisition, and divestment activities within the region.
  • Responsible for timely tax return lodgments and payments, while supporting transfer pricing documentation and strategy for cross-border transactions.
  • Support the Tax Manager in maintaining relationships with Revenue authorities, external advisors, and completing tax effect accounting.
  • Aid in monitoring the effective tax rate, tax losses, profit repatriation, tax-efficient structures, and implementing tax risk management strategies.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes in the region, manage their impact, and ensure proactive implementation of necessary adjustments.
  • Oversee compliance obligations, ensuring timely and accurate filings, coordinating internal and external stakeholders for effective tax compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in tax compliance and reporting functions.
     

What you will bring

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Tax Law 
  • Proven track record of at least 3 years’ experience in the tax department of a large company, tax or financial management
  • Preferably CPA with Big 4 Accounting firm background
  • Previous tax reporting experience in Africa region and large multinational corporation is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English; Spanish language skill is an advantage
  • Self-motivated, results-driven and a team player 
  • Knowledge of SAP and OneSource is an advantage
